In a unanimous vote by its membership at a packed July 22nd General Membership meeting, The Unity Democratic Club endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for President of the United States, joining over 23 governors, 41 senators, and 186 senators who publicly supported her on the same day.

“It’s more than a vote of consensus,” said District Leader and Interim UD Organizing Chair Ramdat Singh. “We are encouraged by Harris’ great competence to serve the American people and to defeat what we all know to be an existential threat to our Democracy in the Trump-Vance ticket.”

After an informative presentation on the New York Equal Rights Amendment by Gina Baldwin of the New Yorkers for Equal Rights, the club also voted to endorse the amendment. Whereas the constitution currently bans discrimination based on race, color, creed, or religion, the amendment would include ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy, pregnancy outcomes, and reproductive healthcare and autonomy.

The Unity Democrats further announced the formation of a task force, to be led by State Committee Member and UD Interim Secretary Morgan Evers, that will foster awareness of the ratifying vote in November through events and get-out-the-vote days of action. The community at large will be invited to participate in these events just as they are welcome at all monthly club meetings.

“It’s in our hearts,” said Club President Betsey Knapp. “It speaks to who we are as Unity Democrats. We must take this action for ourselves, our children, our friends, and our neighbors.”

To complement the pressing presidential endorsement, the club voted to endorse a club statement on the recent U.S. Supreme Court verdict, “Trump v. United States”:
